Before You Travel to United Kingdom
The United Kingdom operates its own independent border and immigration system. Entry requirements vary according to your nationality, the purpose and length of your visit, and recent policy changes.
Use this guide to ensure your documentation is complete and your travel preparations are fully in order before your trip. Our team is also available to answer any specific questions regarding your individual circumstances.
Allow at least 8 weeks before travel for visa processing.
Requirements can change — always verify before departure.
Passport Requirements
Your passport must meet the following minimum requirements to be accepted at UK border control. Travelling without a valid and compliant passport may result in being refused boarding by your airline or denied entry at the UK border.
Visa Application GuideYour passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay in the UK. Unlike some other countries, the UK does not require 6 months of validity beyond your travel dates.
You must have at least one completely blank page for entry stamps. Border Force officers will refuse entry if no blank pages are available.
A machine-readable biometric passport (with the chip symbol on the cover) is strongly recommended and required for eGate use at major UK airports.
Every child must travel on their own individual passport. Children travelling without both parents may be asked to provide a letter of consent from the non-travelling parent.
